ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
Health and Fitness Week 2007 is 8 days in total, Aug 30-Sept 7
The dates we give are the arrival and departure days. Except for dinner and an orientation meeting on arrival day, there are no program activities on arrival and departure days. Ideally, you will want to arrive and depart early afternoon on your arrival and departure days. This should allow you reasonable wake up times no matter from where you are starting. We ask that you do not arrive in the evening on arrival days as you will miss the opening ceremony.

PACKING LIST
Pack for a week of athletic activity:
* layers, wicking clothing, assuming daytime temps of 65, and morning temps as low as 40.
* Toiletries, as required.
* Shower Towel
* Sunscreen if you use it. Hat, if sunburn could be an issue.
* Footwear: general indoor/outdoor athletic play, hiking, lounging; optionally, shower / creek shoes.
* Flashlight
* Miscellaneous: A 'white elephant' gift that you might have once thought valuable, but no longer do, that someone else might enjoy. Unisex is best, but if everyone brings something specific to his / her gender, that tends to work out, too.
* Optional: Bathing suit, heart rate monitor, mesh laundry bag, gloves for catching (possibly wet) heavy balls.
* A signed copy of the waiver (you will be handed a waiver at the start of the event)
Mainly, relax knowing that there are Sporting Goods, grocery, and drug stores convenient to Camp, so you can get anything you might have forgotten and / or intentionally not carried. We'll be making frequent 'runs' for incidentals, and will pick up for you.

Activities may include: Running , Jumping like a frog , Jumping on picnic tables (advanced) , Carrying picnic tables , Basketball drills , Agility drills , Walking on hands with feet on walls , Tag , Tag on sand volleyball courts , Crab soccer , Swiss ball play , Hiking , Pullups , Kenny Pops , Birdie bars , Football drills , 12-minute run drill , One-legged squats , Piggyback carrys , Agility ladder , Heavy ball catch , Teamwork drills like 'how many balls can we pass around?' , Running against stretchy bands held by a partner , Two legged hops up steps , Handstands, etc. There are some pictures in the FoodnSport Gallery that may be illuminative. How much is outside / inside? - Historically, the morning workout has been the gentlest of the day, being morning and all, and indoors, something like Swiss Ball practice or yoga.
PAYMENT
If you have made a deposit or otherwise have a balance outstanding, please pay the balance before you arrive at Camp, at the foodnsport.com store (http://www.foodnsport.com/store). You can buy multiple of the FoodnSport Deposit item under Odds and Ends. If you are not able to do this, please be prepared to settle up when arrive or soon after. Contact us before travelling to Camp and we can discuss an alternative payment arrangement, if needed.
WORK EXCHANGE
Work Exchange at this time is currently full.
ALUMNI DISCOUNT
If you have attended camp previously, remember the $500 Alumni discount applies to the Full Program, and that there is a generous 'bounty' for each full fare camper you bring or refer.
CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE SPECIALISTS (CES)
Customer Experience Specialists is the name for the group of people between Staff and Work Exchange. Being a Customer Experience Specialist means doing whatever it might take to make sure that the paying campers have the best experience that they possibly can. Your role could include, but not be limited to: carrying luggage, driving a shuttle van, listening attentively when you'd rather be doing something else, imparting sage advice, mediating minor disagreements, reporting any dissatisfactions or issues to appropriate staff, folding laundry, carrying someone's pack on a hike, and working in the kitchen, all as needed. CES is by invite only to people who have attended H&F Week before.
CAMPING OUT AT HEALTH AND FITNESS WEEK
Campers/attendees will have indoor lodging, and the rest of us (staff, work exchange and CES) will mostly be indoor camping in the newly constructed greenhouse, etc. and need to bring tents, sleeping bags, etc.; appropriate to the weather, including overnights around 40 F. There are also multiple shared bathrooms in the Center, as well as a shower outside. And you should be able to find a time to grab a shower while the Campers are out.
CAMPING GEAR
Regarding camping gear, there is major retail in Burlington and camping gear is readily available. Target has multiple 30-40 degree bags at about $20. You might also consider a hammock, such as one from Hammock Bliss, in lieu of a tent. Ultralight backpackers swear by a hammock and some type of insulator (car sun reflector or self-inflating mat), in preference to a bag and tent no crawling bugs or hard ground. |
